Sweden does not have a full team in today’s World Cup competition.
It makes Torgny Mogren see red.
– It is a disaster, says the icon.
It is not the first time this season that Sweden has chosen to field fewer skaters than is allowed. Sweden has six starting places in every World Cup competition, but when there was a sprint in Davos before the turn of the year, only two Swedish skiers made it to the start. Norway called it embarrassing, and Torgny Mogren agrees.
Critique of the icon
When it’s time for the 10 kilometer race on Friday, in French Les Rousses, only three Swedish skiers will start, in Ebba Andersson, Elina Rönnlund and Moa Lundgren. The fact is that Sweden actually, as Moa Lundgren has a free seat as she leads the Scandinavian Cup, lined up with seven riders. But many choose to stay over.
And it is now severely criticized by Torgny Mogren. The former skier, icon, and now expert on Radiosport, is strongly critical.
– It is clear that you must use the places you have. What else have you come all the way down here for? But it has been a bit bad this season. Like in Davos, he tells Expressen.

“It’s a disaster”
Torgny Mogren agrees with the criticism directed at Sweden earlier in the season. He thinks that Sweden’s starting places should always be filled.
– Yes I think so. Of course, you must line up with a full crew. Sweden is a big nation – if we have so few skiers, it’s a disaster, he says.
The reason that so many stand over Friday’s distance race is that many prioritize the sprint, which is this weekend. After all, Sweden has eight skaters in place in France. But Mogren still thinks the skaters should want to go, and he compares it to his time in the national team.
– Well, it used to be a hell of a war to go to the World Cup. You were very disappointed if you didn’t get to go.
Maja Dahlqvist is one of the stars who skips Friday’s competition, and instead prioritizes the sprint. She believes that it would have looked different if the sprint went first – as it usually is in the World Cup – and that there are also a lot of competitions right now, and that it is important to prioritize.
