He turned 84 years old.
Basketball profile Egon Håkanson is dead. His grandson, the national team star Ludvig Håkansontalked about the death at an emotional press conference after Murcia’s victory against Nanterre.

– I would like to dedicate this victory to my grandfather who passed away during the match. It was he who made my family play basketball, says the 28-year-old Spain professional.
Egon Håkanson, who turned 84, is often described as a pioneer in basketball Sweden. He was a key figure in Alvik’s dynasty during the 60s and 70s and with the club he won the SM gold as a player, coach and club director.
