Ian Wright is truly one of English football’s top goalscorers of all time and in the national team jersey there were 9 goals in 33 international matches. The football career ended in 2000 and since then we have seen and heard the Arsenal icon as a TV and radio football expert.

Wright’s role model

But even a great footballer like Ian Wright has his own idols and role model and one such is his old teacher Sydney Pigden. And there is a video that leaves no one indifferent as the teacher and student reunite after decades apart, watch it below.

A celebrated war hero, Pigden was one of the youngest fighter pilots in the Second World War and has previously expressed that he was more proud to see Ian play for England than when he himself flew over Buckingham Palace after the war ended.
– I haven’t seen him in 23-24 years, so he probably expects that I’ve been buried for a long time now. He probably won’t recognize me anymore, says Pigden in the video when he is about to meet Wright.

Beautiful meeting

The emotional meeting takes place in the classic Highbury stands and Ian Wright can’t believe his eyes when he sees his old teacher.
– Mr. Pigden, you’re alive… I can’t believe this, I was told you were dead, he says in the clip, watch it below.
– He was always so supportive of me and had me as his own special project. Only now do I realize how important he was to my life. The first male role model in my upbringing who tried to guide me to the right path in life.

Then the tears take over for Ian Wright who is so incredibly touched. Both unite in the most beautiful hug and send shivers through the rest of the football world.
– I don’t know what to say, I really can’t believe it, says the football legend about seeing his great role model still alive.
