Luc Tardif, president of the International Hockey Federation IIHF, said the August tournament would start from scratch.
The Men’s Hockey World Championships, which were suspended at the end of last year, will be played again in August in Alberta, Canada, says the International Hockey Federation IIHF. on their website (you switch to another service).
The races in Edmonton and Red Deer had to be suspended on December 29 after coronavirus infections were detected in U.S., Czech and Russian teams.
Chairman of the IIHF Luc Tardif said the August tournament will start from scratch, meaning the December results will not be valid in the summer. Finland had time to grab three victories in December before the Games ended abruptly.
The most recent win was the Czech Republic’s transfer victory.
– The tournament will take place in mid-August in Alberta. It will be a new competition, which means we will forget the (December) results, Tardif said in Beijing.
The August tournament will be played by the same age groups as in December, meaning players born in 2002 and younger.
The IIHF also said it had found a new date for the World Championships for girls under 18 scheduled for January in Sweden. According to Tardif, the race will be played “in the northern United States in June,” but more detailed venue information is not yet available.
Sweden is scheduled to host the World Championships for girls under 18 next year.
