The ICC, the International Criminal Court in The Hague, has issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader al-Masri, the court announced. Israel’s former defense minister Yoav Gallant is also included in the order.
The court says it issued the order for all victims of the war and applies to crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from October 8, 2023 through at least May 20, 2024, the ICC announced.
Both Netanyahu and Gallant are said to be responsible for war crimes through starvation as a weapon as well as crimes against humanity through murder, persecution and other “inhuman acts”.
– We have reasonable grounds to believe that both individuals deliberately deprived the civilian population of Gaza of items that were indispensable to their survival, including food, water and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity, the ICC writes in a statement.
It was in May that Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan asked for the arrest warrant from the ICC. Now the court has accepted and wants to see the leaders imprisoned.
