An Ica store burned to the ground.
The woman was previously committed to psychiatric inpatient care, but was discharged on December 12.

On Monday, an alarm came in about an assault in an Ica store on Norra Haga in Västerås. Then it started to burn. The grocery store burned to the ground and a VMA was issued due to the development of smoke.

A woman in her 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of aggravated arson. Later on Monday, she was arrested following a decision by the prosecutor.

The woman appealed against compulsory care

TV4 Nyheterna can now reveal that a chief medical officer decided on December 5 that the woman would receive compulsory care in a department for psychiatric inpatient care. At the time, the woman was already admitted to a healthcare facility for voluntary psychiatric care. She then appealed the chief surgeon’s assessment.

On December 12, forced care ended. The same day, the woman withdrew her appeal.

Today, thirteen days later, she was therefore arrested on suspicion of aggravated arson.

Suffered from serious mental disorder

On December 21, a verdict was handed down in the Administrative Court regarding the woman’s previous appeal. According to the verdict, she suffered from a mental disorder at the time of the decision on compulsory care. In the investigation, it also appears that she exhibited serious symptoms and must have had an unavoidable need for inpatient psychiatric care. This is to be able to ensure the necessary care and treatment.

The woman must not have been cooperative regarding voluntary treatment. Therefore, the Administrative Court considers that care could not be provided with her consent. Thus, the prerequisites for compulsory care were met, the court reasoned.

At the time of the decision, the woman must have shown plans and impulses to commit suicide. She is also said to have been aggressive and injured fellow patients.
