The Hungarian parliament is scheduled to vote on Finland’s accession to NATO today, Monday.

Finland’s application will be discussed in the parliament in the afternoon. The vote is expected to take place at 7 p.m. at the earliest.

Voting should be mostly a formality. Leader of the parliamentary group of the Fidesz party that leads Hungary Maté Kocsis said on Friday that his group supports Finland’s membership.

Ylen’s NATO special reporter Mika Hentunen follows the session of the Hungarian Parliament on site in Budapest.

Hentunen said earlier on Monday in ‘s morning that Hungary did not want to be last in the ratification process.

There can still be twists and turns in the journey, says Hentunen. Hungary’s ratification vote was scheduled to take place already last September.

However, now the signs are good. The head of the prime minister’s office said in an interview with the Hungarian news agency on Sunday that the ratification vote will be held today, Hentunen points out.

The news is updated.
