The US ambassador to Hungary, David Pressman, was present in the parliament and stated that they want to see Hungary vote on Sweden’s entry into NATO as quickly as possible.
– Sweden’s entry into NATO is something that directly affects US national security, he says.
The chairman of the US Senate’s foreign affairs committee, Senator Ben Cardin, also believes that Viktor Orbán did not keep his promise to ratify Sweden’s NATO application when he had the chance.
“Allies show up for each other. Allies keep their word. Prime Minister Orbán should remember that and act accordingly,” writes Cardin on X.
Potential Russian agenda
Hungarian politicians, who are not in Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party, do not know why the vote has not yet taken place, and wonder if the president is doing Putin a favor.
– It is a real possibility. There is no reason to block anymore, when Turkey has said yes, says David Bedö.
