The huge criticism of England after the final loss against Spain – now the whole world is saying the same thing: “It’s time to…”

Another final – another loss.
Now everyone is saying exactly the same thing after England’s lead-heavy second place in the EC.
– He deserves criticism, says Rio Ferdinand about coach Gareth Southgate.

England’s championship run under Gareth Southgate has been impressive, but it remains the case that the nation has not won anything since 1966. The last European Championship final was a penalty shoot-out loss to Italy, and yesterday, against Spain, there was another crushing defeat.

Great criticism

Spain took the lead early in the second half through Nico Williams, but England were to equalize when 70th-minute substitute Cole Palmer fired home the equalizer from distance just minutes later. And then everyone went and waited for extension.

But with just minutes left in the game, substitute Mikel Oyarzabal found a gap behind England’s defense and poked home the 2-1 lead. England had chances to equalise, but never came closer than a header that was saved on the goal line. England lost another final, and afterwards much of the talk was about Gareth Southgate. The national captain’s future is uncertain, and during this year’s EC the criticism against him has at times been massive, above all when many believed that he played far too cautious and defensive football.

“Time to leave”

Now several profiles are roaring against the coach, and believe that it is time for a new person to lead the team going forward.

– I suspect that this will be Southgate’s last game, says the old great striker Alan Shearer.

– I think the coach must take some criticism for that. The association has a big decision to make, says Rio Ferdinand.

Jamie O’Hara also writes on X that it is time for Southgate to leave, but the national team captain himself did not want to comment on his future after the loss yesterday. Regarding the replacement for Southgate, the odds favorite is Graham Potter, who was previously a coach in Östersund but was most recently fired from Chelsea.
