After TV4 Nyheterna’s reporting that few municipalities use the government support money for people who, for financial reasons, find it difficult to get a housing contract, the Housing Authority now wants the system to be reviewed. The money is to be used, among other things, as a guarantee for people who lack permanent employment or have debts. But the level is too low, says the Housing Authority.

Each municipality receives SEK 5,000 from the state to act as a creditor for a tenant for two years. A compensation that is too low for the risk the municipality must take, according to several municipalities. In addition, municipalities believe, among other things, that the requirements are too high.

The housing authority also believes that attention has been drawn to the problems in several previous investigations, but that it is the government that determines the compensation level and that the authority has done what it can to inform about the support.
