The housing association Kopparstaden prohibits cats in Furiren

The newly built apartment buildings in the Furiren area in Falun will be cat-free.
The municipal housing company has made a decision to ban it – because cat pee risks destroying the wooden frame.
– S
hill we have to clean up, it will be very difficult and costly, says Anna Timander, marketing and rental manager at Kopparstaden to P4 The valleys.

Anyone who wants to move to the new houses in Furiren and has a cat will encounter problems.

In the total of 129 homes, cats are prohibited, reports P4 Dalarna.

– In most of our apartments, the cat can move with you. But for the new productions, we made decisions based on location and how we build it, says Anna Timander to the radio.

Dogs allowed

The cause is the cats’ strong urine, which risks causing permanent damage to the homes.

– We have a frame entirely made of wood and if we had to clean it up it would be very difficult and expensive. Cat urine gets stuck in a completely different way, says Anna Timander.

But the area will not be completely animal-free. Having a dog with you during the move is no problem at all.

– Cats are more difficult to control and are more independent.
