The House of Representatives wants to impeach Biden’s minister

Republicans have accused Alejandro Mayorkas of “deliberately and systematically” failing to keep the nation’s border secure.

By just one vote, 214–213, the Republican-dominated House of Representatives voted for impeachment. In a vote last week, three Republicans chose not to vote yes, which is why the proposal then fell.

The minister has been accused of failing to comply with US immigration law at a time when record numbers of migrants have arrived at the border and of making misleading statements about the security situation at the border.

Biden: “Foolish political game”

After the vote, US President Joe Biden criticized the Republican politicians for, according to him, setting an example of party politics that goes against the constitution and that “history will not look kindly on”.

– The Republicans have clearly targeted an honest official to play their silly political game, he says in a statement.

Now the matter, in case Mayorkas is to be impeached, goes on for consideration in the Senate. But the Democrats have a majority there.

Trump faces impeachment twice

The Republicans in the House of Representatives are also investigating whether any of Biden’s actions before he moved into the White House could lead to an impeachment trial, Reuters reports.

Former President Donald Trump has been impeached twice during the time that the Democrats dominated the House of Representatives. He was later acquitted in both cases by the Senate, which then had a Republican majority.
