Former Minister of VWS Hugo de Jonge halted the proposed sale of Intravacc during the corona pandemic. Last summer, the current minister Kuipers announced that he would still be selling the company, because he does not believe that retaining one specific company for the Netherlands has any added value. According to Kuipers, Intravacc would also be able to obtain private money more easily if it no longer belongs to the government. And he wants to take steps to become more self-sufficient in vaccine development, as the CDA envisions it, in a European context.
