All the Republicans in the House of Representatives voted for the impeachment of Joe Biden and the Democrats against it.
The Republican-controlled United States House of Representatives has been officially authorized by a Democratic president Joe Biden against the ongoing impeachment investigation.
The vote was split 221-212, with all House Republicans voting for the investigation and Democrats against it.
The Republicans started the impeachment investigation in September. With the authorization of the House of Representatives, the investigation may, for example, gain more authority, for example to force the Biden administration to cooperate.
The investigation is about whether Joe Biden benefited from his son while serving as vice president from 2009 to 2017 Hunter Biden transactions abroad. No evidence has been presented against the president.
Even if the House ends up impeaching Biden, it is highly unlikely that the process would lead to the president’s impeachment. Impeachment would require two-thirds of the Democrat-led Senate to support it.
However, even the investigation can become a weapon for the Republicans as Biden seeks another term in next year’s presidential election.
“Unfounded political trick”
Some Republicans in the House of Representatives hesitated in advance about the vote. However, party leaders have assured that supporting the investigation does not mean supporting impeachment.
The White House has dismissed the investigation as politically motivated.
In a statement released by the White House, Biden called the investigation a “baseless political stunt.”
– Instead of doing anything to improve the lives of Americans, they have focused on attacking me with lies, Biden accused the Republicans.
Several criminal charges have been brought against Hunter Biden this year. In August, a criminal charge was brought against Biden for illegal possession of a handgun. According to the indictment, he lied about his drug use when he bought the pistol in 2018. Several tax evasion charges were also brought against Biden last week.
