The hostage drama that began on Saturday night at Hamburg airport continues. According to the police, the situation is unchanged early Sunday morning.

The police are in contact with the man who drove through the gates, shot in the air and has a four-year-old he is the father of as a hostage.

The Hamburg police state on the social media platform X that a negotiation group is in contact with the person in the car, who is inside the airport.

Police were alerted just after 8pm on Saturday that a car had forced the gates to the runways.

The man stopped the car and fired two shots into the air. The police have also confirmed to Die Welt that the man threw two petrol bombs inside the airport area.

There is no information that it is a terrorist crime.

Police spokeswoman Sandra Levgrün tells the media that they are having a dialogue with the man, whose hostage is a four-year-old that he is the father of. The man’s motive is still unclear.

According to several newspapers, the police had previously been alerted by the man’s wife, who stated that the husband had taken the couple’s children with him and headed towards the airport.

The airport is evacuated and closed and traffic suspended until further notice, according to what the Hamburg airport account on X announces at 4 o’clock on Sunday morning.
