The two horror films It and IT Chapter 2 have brought in over a billion dollars together, but it shouldn’t stop there. A new series will set the world of Stephen King’s novel It and presumably its Nightmare creation Pennywise continue to exploit. However, it is not a sequel, but the prequel.
What is known about the prequel series to the horror hit It
The working title of the series is Welcome to Derry, named after the town where the horror story takes place. That goes on one official notice of the streaming service HBO Max back (via Deadline). The following was revealed:
Warner Bros.
It chapter 2
Part 2 of the horror double had already touched on the prehistory of Pennywise. The series could now delve deeper into it. However, it is not yet known whether Bill Skarsgård will wear the clown costume again for the series.
What the horror series has in common with The Lord of the Rings
News of the It series came almost at the same time as news of the new Lord of the Rings movies that Warner Bros. and New Line are working on. With both fabrics, Warner is continuing some of its most successful lines.
After all, the first part of Es grossed over 700 million dollars worldwide in 2017, which – without adjusting for inflation – made it the highest grossing horror film of all time made (via The Numbers). Even after accounting for inflation, it’s ranked 5th, only surpassed by the classics Jaws (ranked 1st), The Exorcist, The Sixth Sense, and Gremlins (according to Collider)
The Welcome to Derry It series also joins several of HBO Max’s DC series, including The Batman series The Penguin. A start date does not yet exist for Welcome to Derry.
