The hedge drove over Mjällby – again

It is only a few weeks since BK Häcken knocked out Mjällby in the Swedish Cup final (4–1). It didn’t go much better for Mjällby when the list team came to Hisingen for a visit in the last allsvenskan round of the spring.

An early goal by Bénie Traoré paved the way for what ended up being a comfortable 3–0 victory. Thanks to it, Häcken goes to the summer break with 28 points, three behind the table Malmö FF.

Traoré with his twelfth goal

The match was barely ten minutes old when top scorer Traoré scored his twelfth Allsvenskan goal. Whether the usually ice-cold Traoré was actually aware of what he was doing this time is, on the other hand, unclear after he received teammate Romeo Amane’s shot in the head, which put away the team’s goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist.

The hedge was missing the suspended midfield shadow Samuel Gustafson. It seemed to matter less in a match Häcken controlled while Mjällby had to focus on defensive play. Five minutes before the break, centre-back Even Hovland extended the home team’s lead, played by 17-year-old Pontus Dahbo.

— We make few mistakes and have full control of the match. It feels great to be able to play Allsvenskan football and get the chance to start, said Dahbo to Discovery+ during the break.

Dahbo goalscorer

During the Allsvenskan spring season, Mjällby has had difficulty scoring goals. Now, however, they were close to a direct reply – but Otto Rosengren’s shot was deflected onto the post by Peter Abrahamsson.

At the beginning of the second half, instead, Pontus Dahbo scored his second Allsvenskan goal, after he had also scored one of the goals in the derby victory against IFK Göteborg in May. Häcken then continued to dominate the match picture and had, among other things, two offside goals ruled out.
