The match between Belgium and Sweden was interrupted as a result of a terrorist act in which two Swedish supporters lost their lives.
Fans in the arena remained for hours after the announcement.
Then Belgian supporters gave their support to the Swedes on the spot with nice gestures.
It was on Monday evening that the first reports of a shooting in central Brussels came, shortly before kick-off between Belgium and Sweden in the European Championship qualifiers. It later became clear that three had been shot, two of whom died. All those shot were Swedish citizens, and at least one is said to have been wearing a Swedish national team shirt. The third person is being treated in hospital.
The arena in lockdown
The first half of the match was played, but at halftime both national teams were informed of the shooting, and the players decided not to play the second half. After a while, it was announced at the arena in Brussels that the match had been postponed and would not be played.

However, the supporters who were there remained for several hours in the stands, as Belgian police did not want the fans out on the streets with the suspected perpetrator still at large. It has been reported that around 700 Swedes were present in Brussels to watch the match.
Nice gesture
While waiting at the arena, the Belgian supporters lined up to show their support for the Swedish supporters, who lost their compatriots. In videos posted on social media, which can be seen below, Belgian fans around the stadium turn on the flashlights on their mobile phones.

The Belgians then proceeded to turn towards the Swedish supporters and sing a Sweden anthem. In the comment field on the posts, the Belgian supporters are praised for the initiative, while several express their support for the Swedish fans.
The Belgian supporters were able to leave the arena after a few hours. The Swedes on site were later evacuated during the night and given a police escort to their hotels.
