– We would appreciate it if the protection could be strengthened so that we can stop the smuggling in this way. Then we also need more resources to be able to carry out more checks and find the right containers, says Stefan Granath in SVT’s Aktuellt.
The customs agency has asked for one billion kroner spread over three years from the government, in order, among other things, to streamline the work against drug smuggling.
– It is a challenging task for us to try to be in all these different places and find the right type of goods. Because it is not possible to control everything that enters the country’s borders, says Granath.
But will the smugglers be affected by the large seizures already made?
– I think so. We have seized such large quantities, so the effect will be enough that they will have to look for other places to bring in the drugs. If we steer organized crime away from here, then we have really made a difference to society, says the inspector general.
