Thus, Koskinen’s successful head coaching ends.

– In eight years, a lot happens and the sport goes so far ahead that I felt now was the right time to change the leader. I’ve experienced a lot of change on the race front over the years, and as a team we’ve been able to respond to that change. In order for the development to take place even better, and to be able to move forward from this point on, a new approach to this whole thing is needed, Koskinen reflects in the press release.

– That’s where the idea came from, why is now a good time to give up and also look for a new direction.

Koskinen started his coaching contract at the snowboard line of Sotkamo High School in 2005, from where he continued as the assistant coach of the national team until 2014, when he was elected head coach. Koskinen has participated in four Olympics, three of which have won a medal for the Finnish team. In addition, he has coached at several successful World Championships.

– Koskinen has had a great career as head coach, for which we are very grateful. He has led the team with healthy values and a modern grip and the team spirit has been exceptionally communal. His leadership style in top sports and his wholehearted dedication to his work have yielded an incredible number of medal and Olympic medals in such a small snowboard country. Our bigger ones have not given up during Koskinen’s time, says the Executive Director of the Snowboard Association Tiina Lindström.

The Snowboard Association bulletin says the next head coach will be announced later.
