The success in the 100 meters in the star duel came at a cost.
Superstar Armand Duplantis won in Zurich during the Diamond League gala, but it was a modest 5.82 meters.
– Perhaps the hardest competition I’ve ever done, says the pole vaulter.
There was rain and debris in Zurich when the Diamond League gala was decided at the Letzigrund stadium, but that was not the only thing that affected Armand Duplantis in the pole vault competition.
The day before he had won against the Norwegian Karsten Warholm – world record holder in the 400m hurdles – in a 100m duel in the same stadium.
– My body is completely exhausted from yesterday. It felt like everything was perfectly fine after the competition, but the night was a bit rough. It felt like I had been run over by the train, says Duplantis to SVT.

For Warholm, the duel ended with him being forced to withdraw from his hurdle race due to a feeling in the back of his thigh.
For Duplantis, two cleared heights were enough to win. First 5.62 and then 5.82. After two clearances of 6.02 meters, he chose to stop jumping. Then the victory was secured because the American Sam Kendricks – who had already ripped out at the same height – had a tear at his entry height (5.42).
– I fixed the victory, I can’t complain, says Duplantis.

He does not regret the star duel in the 100 meters, but will not change careers.
– I’m not a sprinter. I will only do pole vaulting from now on, says Armand Duplantis with a smile.
