The Håkansson family’s meat empire – here are the Blentagruppen’s billion-dollar assets

Succeeding in building a family empire is both difficult and takes a long time. In Sweden, there are several examples of companies that have taken the long way to consolidate a strong position within the Swedish business community. One of all family businesses is the Blentagruppen, which now runs a larger empire in several industries.

The Håkansson family’s empire

In 1963, the company’s founders started Harry Håkansson, the construction of the Blenta hatchery in Scania’s Blentarp. Two years later it was completed and is, to this day, one of Sweden’s largest hatcheries in the egg industry, where chickens are reared, egg produced and hatched.

Håkansson ran the business for over 20 years before his son, Jan Håkansson, took over the ship in 1985. In connection with this, they also took the opportunity to acquire a new company, namely the Swedish food company Guldfågeln. With the acquisition of the chicken company, the Blenta family empire began to take shape.

Today, it is one of Sweden’s most successful egg and meat producers and its arsenal includes, in addition to the Guldfågeln, also Lantfågel which was bought in 2003, Ingelsta Turkey which became wholly owned by the Blentagruppen in 2004 and Torsåsen poultry products which were bought in 2006.

To this day, the Blentagruppen is family-owned and the son Jan Håkansson still sits on the board, together with the daughters, as well as the grandchildren of the founder Harry Håkansson, Jessica and Petra.

In the past five years, development has skyrocketed and turnover has risen considerably. In 2018, they had a turnover of just under SEK 1.8 billion. In 2022, the corresponding figure was over 2.5 billion. In 2022, Blentagruppen AB also had assets that were measured at over SEK 1.1 billion, according to data from All companies.
