A blockage in the sewage system in the town of Reulingen led to water flowing into basements and parking garages.

A violent hailstorm briefly brought almost wintry scenery to the southwestern German town of Reulingen on Friday afternoon.

According to the city’s authorities, hail fell up to 30 centimeters in some places. Traditional means had to be used in the middle of summer, when snow plowing equipment was needed to clear the streets.

The unexpected strong wind blocked the drainage systems, which caused water to flow into the basements of the houses and underground parking garages.

The Echaz River, which flows through Reutlingen, rose 1.5 meters in five minutes and briefly burst its banks, but there was no major damage.

In the state of Baden-Württemberg, around 250 firefighters participated in cleaning up the tracks.
