Fender Stratocaster guitar, which was smashed by Kurt Cobain, the ex-soloist of the US rock band Nirvana, who died in 1994, at the auction held at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York, USA, found a buyer at a much higher price than expected. It was stated that the guitar was torn apart while working on Nevermind on Nirvana’s popular albums in the early 1990s, and it was reported that the parts of the guitar were reassembled, but it did not work. In the statement made by Julien’s Auction House, it was stated that the guitar had a buyer for 596 thousand dollars, while the identity of the buyer was not disclosed.
WRITTEN NAME WRONG
While there was a note written by Cobain to his friend Mark Lanegan on the guitar, signed by all three band members, it was seen that Cobain had misspelled his name on the guitar. The guitar that Cobain gave to Lanegan on the North American leg of Nirvana’s Nevermind tour in 1992 reads, “Hello Mark! Yours, Your friend, Kurdt Kobain. Extinct rock star”.
Julien’s Kody Frederick said in a statement that they expect the guitar to sell for an estimated $60,000 to $80,000, describing the closing offer as “surprising”.
