The grim figures reveal: So few households can cope with the new interest rate shock

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Just over half of the country’s home owners would not be able to cope with a cost increase of SEK 6,000 a month. – It can lead to having to sell and it can be very difficult, says Nordea’s private economist Ingela Gabrielsson. Households are under pressure from rising inflation and interest rates. At the same time, a recent survey by Kantar Sifo, carried out on behalf of Nordea, shows that 51 percent of home owners would not be able to manage their finances if costs increased by SEK 6,000. The fact is that every fifth household would hit the ceiling even with a cost increase of SEK 3,000. The figures are gloomy, not least in light of the fact that two-thirds of the fixed loans expire this year and will be rescheduled to significantly higher interest rates. Ingela Gabrielsson, private economist at Nordea, does not see a cost increase of SEK 6,000 as unrealistic and urges everyone to plan their finances. – Expect it to be more expensive, not just one or two months. It will be like this going forward, she says. In the player above: The private economist on how you can review your expenses
