The Green Party KU reports Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) after Aftonbladet’s revelation about the government’s reversal on how many nuclear reactors are to be built.
The MP believes that the government’s actions may violate the constitution.
– It is absolutely fundamental that the Swedes should be able to believe in a cabinet, that she does not lie, says MP Linus Lakso.
Aftonbladet was able to reveal on Friday that Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari’s stated goal that at least ten new nuclear power reactors are required by the 2040s has been abruptly withdrawn.
In addition, the government has chosen to clean up the press release that was sent out with the stated goal.
Now the Green Party chooses to report the Prime Minister to the Riksdag’s Constitution Committee. The party believes that the climate and environment minister has violated the constitution and points to the requirement for objectivity found in the form of government.
– It is very serious. They have had a very high tone in the energy debate and underlined the need for trust. It is absolutely fundamental that the Swedes should be able to believe in a minister, that she does not lie. Whether it’s the facts or the government’s policy, says the Green Party’s energy policy spokesperson Linus Lakso.
– That’s not how trust is built and it’s starting to become a bit of a pattern.
The MP also believes that it is particularly serious that the government chose to remove the press release, which included the target of ten nuclear power reactors, from its website – without a formal correction or comment.
– You have to be able to trust that a minister at a press conference in the government office, that what is presented there is true and correct, that it is government policy and that it meets the requirements of the form of government for objectivity.
– It is very, very doubtful if this is the case. My assessment is that it is not, but now KU will review this.
The Social Democrats are also very critical of the government’s actions regarding nuclear power.
– It is astonishing when a cabinet makes a clear statement without there being a basis for it in the government’s policy. That you then also choose to hide that you have made a mistake instead of communicating clearly what applies is very strange, says Fredrik Olovsson, member of the Riksdag and the party’s main representative in the Riksdag’s business committee.
– In a situation where the energy industry needs clear conditions, you cannot handle this like a playhouse.
S now demands that Energy and Food Minister Ebba Busch (KD) come out and announce what really applies.
– It is not enough to hide away like Romina Pourmokhtari does. You have to stand for what you have done, says Fredrik Olovsson.
