The Greek rival meeting was interrupted after pyrotechnics were thrown – players taken to hospital

The big match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos is usually messy and on Sunday evening it went so far that the match was interrupted and not resumed.

Five minutes into the second half, a pyrotechnic piece was thrown at Panathinaikos’ substitutes who were warming up. It slammed close to Spanish defender Juankar, who fell to the ground and covered his ears.

He was carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital. In the Greek media there are reports of an ear injury.

The match was 1-1 when the match was interrupted. Whether or not it will resume – and if so what the outcome will be – has not yet been decided.

Olympiakos leads the Greek top flight, while Panathinaikos is fourth.
