Jonna Sundling’s grandmother and grandfather about the gold: “She has been stubborn, it’s fun that it has produced results”
Jonna Sundling took home her third straight World Cup gold in sprint on Thursday.
At home on the TV couch, the grandparents followed Britt and Erling Sundling race-nervous and proud.
– You were really nervous that she would fall in the curve where several pieces fell, but it went well, says Britt.
It was a Swedish success in Trondheim when Jonna Sundling won the World Cup gold in the sprint. At the same time, the grandparents were Britt and Erling Sundling benched in front of the TV at home in Sweden.
– It was exciting, very exciting and she made it great. There are so many who are in the national team and at the World Cup. She has done amazingly well, Britt tells TV4 News.
They are both used to following Jonna from the TV couch as she competes around the world.
– We look so good on TV, we seem to sit on the first parquet so it is very nice. And so you can look afterwards too, says Britt.
Followed the career since the start
Britt and Erling have been around since Jonna started skiing early, but that one day would be World Cup gold they had not dared to dream of.
– We have seen that she has been interested in skis, but that she would continue to invest in skis, you didn’t think much about it. But it is very funny that she has done it and she has really spent all her time at a skiing competition and training, says Britt.
Erling adds:
– She has been stubborn, it’s fun that it has produced results.
They describe her as “energetic”, “competition -oriented” and “a little bullshit” characteristics they believe are behind the success story.
Racing skiing themselves
Both Erling and Britt have skied themselves when they were younger, but are humble before the idea that Jonna would have inherited all his talent from there.
– Nobody thinks so, says Erling.
Britt thinks it became obvious a long time ago that Jonna was faster early than his grandfather.
– Erling would compete against Jonna when she was younger, but then he became quite quiet because he understood that he had no chance, she says.
