Hannah and Magdalena Graaf became famous as models and artists in the 90s and have since made their debut as authors, blogged and participated in several TV programs.
Right now, they are current with the UR series “Typically Sami”, where they want to explore their Sami background.
– I have learned an incredible amount and an incredible respect and understanding for our own origins and heritage, says Magdalena.
In the series, we get to follow the sisters on a journey through Sápmi, where they meet both new and old faces, from north to south. Something that they both bring with them is the feeling of togetherness and strong family ties.
– It is clear that sometimes you feel that you are coming and encroaching on someone else’s territory, but we have been very nicely and lovingly received by everyone.
“Asphalt Sami”
Ten years ago, Hannah and Magdalena decided to start a deep dive into their origins. They grew up in Stockholm and call themselves “asphalt Sami” who grew up with both suovas and pointed boots. The sisters’ grandmother was responsible for the storytelling.
– She had such a connection with both nature and the spirit world and we have always found that a bit exciting, says Hannah.
Even though the sisters’ deep interest in Sami culture is new, they both feel a responsibility to spread their knowledge further.
– I think we have a responsibility to spread this message in the way we can, to increase understanding and knowledge of the Sami people.
“Typical Sami” premieres on UR-play on November 14.
