In Norrbotten and Västerbotten, it is estimated that in 2035 an additional 100,000 people will be needed to manage the large investments presented on the assembly line.
In addition to roads and infrastructure for the industrial initiatives themselves, new schools and housing are required that the municipalities themselves must deliver.
– I really hope that the government takes hold of this and sees that there must also be some kind of municipal emergency for those where there will be a huge expansion, says Governor Lotta Finstorp.
Turns over relocation allowance
In 2020, the government appointed Peter Larsson as coordinator to help the major corporate initiatives in Norrbotten and Västerbotten, and in June, Eva Nordström was also appointed as coordinator to coordinate government initiatives.
Many of the company still testify to difficulties in recruiting people to northern Sweden and Kanunis Iron’s vice president has called for a relocation grant. The governor was a year ago critical of that idea but has now turned the issue around and wants the government to investigate this.
– The supply of skills in Norrbotten is a major challenge. Then relocation grants can be a thing, but I see a risk that you are content with it from different actors, but we must work together to strengthen the Norrbotten brand through good schools, leisure and culture, says Finstorp.
