Sweden does not comply with the EU’s renewables directive, which states that it should take a maximum of two years to get permission to build new wind power. Now the government will investigate how the permit process can be shortened.

New statistics from Swedish Wind Energy show that it takes an average of six years to get permission to build a wind farm on land. Now the government wants to shorten the permit period – by appointing a new investigation.

– We need to expand all fossil-free electricity production, it is a very important part of the climate work, says Environment and Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L).
