The government wants family homes and nursing homes to be licensed. The Minister of Social Services says that it will mean greater security for the families, but especially for the placed children.

– These families who open up their homes and get involved in the lives of children and young people must be able to expect good and sustainable rules, says Social Services Minister Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (M).

The social service is already conducting an investigation of homes that want to take in children and young people who may have had an upbringing marred by violence and abuse.

Now the government wants the regulations to be clarified in the form of a license for family homes and emergency homes. Today, there is not even a national register for these, Waltersson Grönvall points out.

– We need a review, she says.

Smaller municipalities also generally have more difficult conditions to conduct investigations of which are suitable homes, according to the minister.

– By ensuring that you are licensed, you can ensure that children receive quality care.

The ambition is to get the proposal in place as quickly as possible. Several investigations in the area will be presented during the spring. According to the minister, it is about taking a comprehensive approach to compensation models, children’s right to education and medical care for those who are placed in family homes.

– This is part of the proposals that I want to implement to improve the situation of vulnerable children, says Camilla Waltersson Grönvall.
