The government and SD agree on a stricter subsistence requirement for labor immigrants.

Today’s minimum level of SEK 13,000 a month must be raised to SEK 26,560 a month.

– This means a doubling of today’s subsistence requirements, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) at a press conference.

The proposal is now sent for referral.

The measure takes place to stop immigration, above all to low-wage occupations. Maria Malmer Stenergard has previously expressed that it is “completely unreasonable” that people come from the other side of the world for a monthly salary of SEK 13,000.

Labor immigration today constitutes the largest part of immigration to Sweden. This year, 100,000 foreigners are expected to apply for a work permit in Sweden, according to the Migration Agency’s forecast.

Curbing labor immigration is important for the government and SD to be able to achieve the promised “paradigm shift” in migration policy. The hope is that the new salary requirement will lead to a substantial reduction.
