Several social measures were announced in Togo by the government on Friday, September 16, to meet the costs of daily living. Ten measures that the Consumers’ Association of Togo welcomes. But she asks the government to do more.

The measures are ten in number. These include increases in wages and retirement pensions, subsidies for oil productsfinancial support for learners’ education, transport allowances for civil servants, special bonuses concerning the thirteenth month in particular…
Measures which aim, says Akodah Ayewouadan, government spokesperson, to help the population in a context of generalized rise in consumer prices, and to cope with the new global economic situation:
” These social measures, the cost of which is estimated at several tens of billions of CFA francs, will produce unprecedented benefits for citizens: a significant increase in income, more content in the household basket, a more serene back-to-school period, stabilization of energy-related costs with control of the price of domestic gas. »
The president of the Republic, @FEGnassingbe took this September 16, 2022, important decisions in order to preserve the purchasing power of households and to protect the most vulnerable layers in this period of expensive living.

These measures, assures the Minister of Communication and Media, guarantee the assurance of the continuous availability of food products also, thanks to the subsidy of fertilizers. These are welcome measures, says the president of the Consumer League, Emmanuel Sogadzi. But according to him, the government must go beyond:
” The government must continue to reflect and discuss with the actors of social life in our country, to reach other decisions. »
The private sector is not forgotten. It is affected by the tenth measure, which grants tax advantages. A measure born of the state of health emergency but which the 2022 finance law repealed. It remains to be seen how and when the tax relief will be effective.
