Press conference on recommendations for digital media use

On Monday, Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed and the Public Health Agency will “report on their mission on age-appropriate recommendations” for children and young people’s digital media use.

– We have a sleep crisis in Sweden. More and more young people sleep badly, and lie scrolling with their mobile phones, says Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed at the press conference.

– It has consequences, he continues.

Swedish 13-16-year-olds spend an average of 6.5 hours per day outside school hours with their screens, adds Forssmed.

– Arguments about screen time are perhaps the most common everyday conflict of our time, says Forssmed.

In June this year, Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed received the Public Health Agency’s report on children’s and young people’s digital media use.

“The report confirmed that extensive use of digital media risks negatively affecting the health of children and young people,” the government writes in a press release.

Now the government must present recommendations for children and young people between the ages of 0 and 18.
