Sweden has previously had two separate strategies against terrorism and violent extremism.
The national strategy against terrorism was last renewed in 2015, and during the past year work has been underway to renew the two strategies.
SVT has been able to learn that the government made a decision on Thursday about a new joint national strategy against terrorism and violent extremism, where the two strategies have thus been merged into one.
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer told today during the People and Defense National Conference in Sälen the main features of the strategy. A press conference will also be held together with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in the area on Monday.
Four key words
The watchwords for the new strategy will be “prevent, prevent, protect and manage.” It can be compared to the watchwords in the previous strategy against terrorism which was “prevent, prevent and hinder.”.
Over the years, the national strategy against terrorism has been used as a starting point for the long-term work against terrorism and is intended to be used by both the government and authorities.
