The government holds a press conference about the spring budget

Tough economy has made it difficult for young people to get a job, says Labor Market and Integration Minister Johan Pehrson (L). Therefore, the government is now presenting proposals that will make boys and girls “clean garden beds instead of becoming the gang leaders’ punishment beds”.

– We know that unemployment is going in the wrong direction, so it is important that we make the right investments so that people do not end up in exclusion due to the difficult economic situation, says Johan Pehrson.

15,000 new summer jobs

In the spring amendment budget, roughly 15,000 municipal summer jobs are proposed. The money must be given to the municipalities where unemployment is high.

Of the SEK 150 million to be distributed by the Employment Agency, SEK 130 million is new money, while SEK 20 million is redistributed from other parts of the state budget. The summer jobs must be available to all young people in the relevant age group in municipalities with high unemployment.

– We know that this is a first step for many into the labor market, says Johan Pehrson.

Investment in a university of applied sciences

2,000 new vocational training places are also proposed. According to the government, the need for people with a vocational education at upper secondary level is very great and many industries have difficulty finding labor with the right education and skills.

The proposals are based on an agreement between the government and the Sweden Democrats.
