It will become more difficult to become a Swedish citizen.
This is stated by the government and SD at a press conference on Friday.
– Citizenship is something you have to earn, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).
At a press conference on Friday, the government and the Sweden Democrats announced that they want to take new steps towards making it more difficult to become a Swedish citizen.
– Sweden needs stricter requirements for citizenship, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) at the press conference.
– Citizenship must mean something. It needs to be revalued both legally and symbolically. The value needs to be respected and protected to a greater degree than today.
The Minister of Migration says at the press conference that a person who has turned 15 but not 18 and has committed a crime cannot be refused, while the same person would have been refused if the person had been over 18.
Opens to revoke citizenship
– That the importance of people living honorably is important to the government and SD should not have gone unnoticed at this point. Citizenship is something you have to earn, not something you get unconditionally. It is important that a regulation is created, she says.
SD’s group leader in the Riksdag, Linda Lindberg, also participated in the press conference. She opened up about being able to revoke the Swedish citizenship.
– The issue of introducing an option to actually revoke Swedish citizenship requires constitutional amendments. We need to look at this, she says.
