It was last Friday that the British team went out of the Gothia cup. Later in the day, they chose to go and swim at the municipal bathing house Nolhaga Parkbad in Alingsås, the town where the team played their matches during the tournament.
The boy, who is 16 years old, was found lifeless in the water and just after 5 pm in the afternoon the alarm came – he was taken by ambulance helicopter to Sahlgrenska.
At first the news was that he was seriously injured, but on Monday the hospital communicated that the injuries were life-threatening. The damage has since remained unchanged.
“Want to take him home”
SVT Nyheter Väst has spoken to the boy’s father. He says that the whole family is watching by the boy’s side and that the boy is about to die.
– We want to take him home to England, says the father.
A fundraiser has been started online by a person posing in British media as a close friend of the family. The aim is to raise enough money to finance a move for the boy to England so that he can continue to be cared for there.
Video spread on social media
In a video that is spreading on social media, a man pretending to be the boy’s father can be seen next to the sick bed at Sahlgrenska, something that P4 Gothenburg be the first to tell.
He says that the son had passion and talent for football and at the same time appeals to the British authorities for help.
– I appeal to the British government to take him home so that he gets the care he needs and can be close to those he loves.
Sahlgrenska does not want to comment on whether it might be appropriate to move the boy to England.
Last year, a Gothia cup player from Ethiopia died in a drowning accident in the same bathhouse.
