Max Verstappen’s superiority created F1 history in the Italian GP. Sergio Perez struggled for a long time behind the Ferraris, but rose to second at the end of the race. Valtteri Bottas finished tenth.
In the sunny Italian GP, Red Bull and the reigning world champion were once again proven Max Verstappen’s superiority. Verstappen took his historic tenth consecutive victory in formula one. No one has been able to do this trick before in the history of the sport.
Sebastian Vettel managed nine consecutive victories in 2013. They have celebrated seven in a row Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.
– I never would have thought this was possible. I had to fight for the win today and that definitely made it even more rewarding, Verstappen beamed in the post-race interview on Viaplay.
Red Bull has won all 14 races of the season.
Verstappen surprisingly started the race second only to Ferrari Carlos Sainz stormed into pole position in Saturday’s qualifying with a 0.013 second gap to Verstappen.
In the race, Ferrari’s straight line speed caused a little gray hair for the Red Bull duo, but not enough. The reigning world champion was already getting frustrated behind Ferrari until Sainz made a fatal driving error. After Sainz’s lock braking, Verstappen wedged into the lead of the race with 15 laps to go.
Ferrari’s Sainz and Charles Leclerc occupied positions two and three for a long time. Red Bull With Sergio Perez had a huge desire to go and he tried to overtake Leclerc several times. Perez eventually managed to move up to second.
– We got the best possible result today. Overtaking the Ferraris was really difficult, the going got crazy at times and I had to wear my tires to the limit, Perez smiled.
From Ferrara, Sainz managed to keep third place ahead of Leclerc, who drove another Ferrari.
– I did everything I could to defend my position, but in the end I couldn’t do anything. We had fun, I hope the audience also enjoyed the hard race, Sainz said.
Valtteri Bottas quietly rose to the points outside the pictures, he was tenth in the race.
The Monza GP immediately got drama in the warm-up lap, when the Japanese driver of AlphaTauri Yuki Tsunoda the car broke down on the warm-up lap. The start of the race was therefore delayed by 20 minutes.
