– We look forward to achieving the goal of discontinuing the rental staff, but it will take time, says Carina Vennström, head of department.
The department is currently part of the project “Sustainable staffing of nurses”, which aims to minimize dependence on temporary staff.
– We have many new employees and for them the rental staff is a great and important security, but as they get warm in their clothes and grow into their roles, we will be able to reduce the dependency, says Carina Vennström.
The department has succeeded in creating a positive spiral. In two years, emergency care department 30 C has recruited 25 nurses and today there are 27 in total. During the same time, three in the force have quit.
All care places open
The department began to be built up two years ago. Patients, often elderly and ill with tetanus, come here from the emergency room. Right now, all care places are open and fully booked.
– It will be a good school for the new employees. How will one be able to learn if many of the care places are closed?
What have you succeeded in that other departments have not managed in the same way?
– We had the chance to build a department from scratch and have worked hard to create a good working environment, a present leadership and career opportunities.
And then the salary?
– We have the same frameworks and guidelines as other departments.
Today, approximately one third of the staff is temporary staff.
– We are open around the clock and need support today.
