In Pokémon GO, the big global GO Fest is now over. Our MeinMMO author Franzi thought it was really strong, but she also thinks that a big mistake was made. What that is, she has summarized for you below.
Which event is it about? In the last two days, the event of the year took place in Pokémon GO: the global GO Fest. Coaches have been looking forward to this weekend for months and now it’s over again.
I didn’t let it take me either and was active in the game all weekend. While I was writing articles for you and providing you with the latest information about the event via our live ticker, I was busy trying to catch monsters, do raids and solve tasks.
Even if the event had a lot of highlights in store for me, I still think it could be better. I’ll explain below why I think that and what I think was the biggest sticking point.
Strong content, but misplaced
GO Fest shined with strong content: First of all, it has to be said that the GO Fest once again provided a lot of interesting and, above all, strong content this year. In particular, players without a ticket were able to use most of the event, especially the spawns.
For ticket holders there were also one or two additional spawns from the smoke as well as some bonuses. I was particularly happy about the exclusive spawns of Gladiantri as well as Venuflibis and Pachirisu. The last two were missing from my collection due to their regional origin.
But also Skaraborn, Praktibalk and Kaumalat as well as all the new Shinys have aroused my interest. In addition, there were a lot of challenges for ticket holders on the first day of the event. Finally, today Mega Rayquaza made its in-game debut, which I also didn’t want to miss. Catching a dazzling Rayquaza was one of my highlights of the event.
But the event also had a big flaw for me, despite the many cool contents.
That’s why Pokemon GO made a big mistake from my point of view
Too much content on Saturday: Despite the numerous offers in the game, I feel that the content was not well distributed. While on Saturday I had the feeling of being overloaded with spawns, raids and bonuses and therefore sometimes didn’t even know what to do first, on Sunday there was almost a yawning emptiness.
So on the first day of the event I felt really driven by the content. A new habitat began constantly, causing special spawns to appear out of the smoke and in the wild. The research tasks changed. You should complete global challenges to earn a Hyper Bonus, while also collecting Mega Energy for Diancie and completing the Collector Challenges for each habitat on time.
Even if there is certainly the fact that I worked in parallel that day and therefore could not concentrate exclusively on the game, the day was just overloaded for me.
No bonuses on Sunday: On Sunday, however, yesterday’s monsters all spawned wildly without habitats. On the one hand, that’s nice, because you can find all the monsters again without a time limit and go on a shiny hunt again, but it also quickly seems boring because some Pokémon appeared more often than others.
That’s why my focus today was more on the raids, which probably happened to most trainers. This is where the well-known problem of missing local communities comes into play. If you don’t have these, you’re quickly in a fix, because you can’t do it alone with Mega Rayquaza. Due to the high prices for long-distance raids, it was over for many after a few raids and you were finally alone.
So in the second half of the day, there was almost a yawning void for me. I just kept catching some wild Pokemon and doing some smaller raids like Snorlax or Viscora where I didn’t need any help. There were no special incentives in the form of bonuses to catch a few more Pokémon.
What could have been better for the GO Fest?
Better content distribution: From my point of view, the content should be distributed differently at a two-day event. So I found it really a shame that there were almost no bonuses on the second day, since the global challenges were also missing. The changing field research had also provided some variety the day before.
I would therefore like the event content to be better distributed over the two days. In my opinion, it would also have been conceivable that the collector challenges would be active until Sunday. This means that even coaches who didn’t have much time to play on the first day can still solve their tasks. The first day would then also be less overloaded.
More incentives on day 2: There should also be more incentives to play on the second day of the event. These do not necessarily have to be bonuses, but additional spawns or interesting raid bosses in the smaller raids could have been a way to freshen up the Sunday.
My conclusion: In conclusion, I can say that I found the GO Fest to be a successful event overall. The content was really strong. For future events of this type, however, I would like to see a better distribution of spawns, bonuses and raids over the two event days so that they are not overloaded or boring. Maybe there should be more incentives on the second day of the event. Nevertheless, I will play the GO Fest again at any time.
