15-year-old Asel Sena Tengiz, a high school student living in Atakum district, was diagnosed with a rare disease. Asel, who experienced ‘spontaneous bilateral sternoclavicular joint dislocation’, had a dislocation in the joint where the collarbone connects to the breastbone and in the joint that connects the collarbone and shoulder blade, without any reason, 1 year ago. Asel Sena Tengiz, who went from hospital to hospital due to her illness, could not find a cure. Asel, whose quality of life decreased due to the constant dislocation of his joints in his social life, subsequently went to Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center and started physical therapy.
“ONLY CASE IN THE WORLD”

Dr. İlker İlhanlı explained that the patient who had a spontaneous dislocation of the joint connecting the collarbone and the shoulder blade was the only case in the world. Prof. Dr. İlhanlı said, “Our patient is a very rare case. He has a disease that has been reported 60 times in the world since 1979. It is a case of ‘bilateral spontaneous dislocation of the joint where the collarbone connects to the sternum’. Explaining the difficulties she experienced, Asel Sena Tengiz said, “I noticed this situation a year ago when I raised my arm. Then it happened for no reason and without reason. We learned that the surgical operation could cause some problems for us in the future. Finally, we applied to our teacher İlker. The physical therapy that was applied for a year gave results, and since I was the only case in the world, everything was done experimentally. “Despite this, a great improvement was still achieved,” he said.

Elif Ulukan, a physiotherapist at the center, said, “We implemented a treatment program completely specific to Asel. We added breathing exercises to the treatment program. We applied taping treatment. Asel is the only case in the world where both sides occur without any reason. We have made great progress.”
