The last competition of the season was controversial for Frida Karlsson.
In Norway, anger rained down on her.
– It’s typical Frida, sighs Astrid Öyre Slind.
The last competition of the season was a 20 kilometer long mass start in Falun, but for Frida Karlsson the season ended with great disappointment. Frida Karlsson had a miserable day out on the trail, and she didn’t just break one pole, but two. It was when Karlsson was about to replace her first broken pole that the accident happened again, when she collided with the Norwegian Astrid Öyre Slind.
The great anger
Frida Karlsson tried to look out to the side of the track in search of a new pole, but then crashed into Öyre Slind, which led to Karlsson having another pole destroyed. And for the Norwegian, the crash meant that she lost the chance for top positions. And there weren’t exactly happy faces from the Norwegian side afterwards.
Astrid Öyre Slind called Frida’s actions in the track “damn unnecessary”, and Norwegian experts severely criticized Frida.
– Frida is desperate there, she goes right into Astrid, and destroys a stick for her. Very clumsy situation, says NRK’s length expert Fredrik Aukland.
“Typically Frida…”
However, Frida Karlsson said that she did not deserve to be blamed for the situation, and that in such cases it was just as much Öyre Slind’s fault.
– I was going to look for a new staff and I was very clear and signaled that I was going out there, so I think she could have understood the signal, explained Frida Karlsson afterwards.
She continues:
– She destroyed mine too, so we’re pretty even there.
But Frida Karlsson’s explanation does not have much left for Astrid Öyre Slind. Instead, she said that the incident was a “typical” Frida Karlsson incident.
– I don’t understand how it can be my fault, because she is the one crossing right over my track. This is typical Frida, she says.
