Paralympian Lovisa Karlsson looked to be snubbed for a place in the athletics EC, but now the Swede gets to compete in Rome after all.
– So huge and I think it’s so nice that justice still wins, says her trainer Nadja Casadei.
France de-registered two heptathletes for the EC after the registration period expired. The European Athletics Federation (EA) then chose not to fill the starting field to 24 active, which meant that Lovisa Karlsson missed out on a place.
The Swedish Athletics Federation tried to get EA to change its mind, but only when the general secretary Stefan Olsson contacted the board it gave results.
– When he took it up a level, it felt like it finally took a turn. This concerned several branches, but it was this case that drove the whole thing, says federation captain Kajsa Bergqvist.
– I received an email at 9.37 this morning with a request if we accepted the place and at 9.42 I replied that yes, of course we want to.

EA writes in a press release that a member union made major administrative mistakes and did not remove twelve active members from its preliminary notification. Therefore, EA has decided that these places may be filled by others, even though the registration period has expired.
– It is good for EA to be able to change its mind. It must still be felt for them to change their mind now, says Nadja Casadei.
Kajsa Bergqvist tells Casadei as she leaves the message:
– I’m so damn happy, you deserve this so much.
