Iivo Niskanen is one of the big stars of the skiing world.
But now he is in bad weather.
The Finn was accused by a competitor – of doing what was forbidden in the middle of the competition.
– It is in no way acceptable, says Kalle Parantainen.
Every time there is a big championship in the world of skiing, Iivo Niskanen is Finland’s big medal hope, and it is easy to understand why. Over the years, there have been a total of three Olympic golds and one WC gold, and in the most recent winter games there were a total of three medals, one of which is gold.
Made it forbidden
Niskanen has had a tougher season this winter, when after the podium in the first competition of the season he was far from the top places. And now the star has ended up in serious trouble, after an incident in the Finnish cup. It was in Sunday’s relay that Niskanen did the completely forbidden during the relay.
When Niskanen was about to change tracks, judging by the camera images, he appeared to kick the rider who was in front of him. Kalle Parantainen was that rider, and when he reached the finish line, according to his own statement, his leg was bloody.
– His behavior in that situation was in no way acceptable. I noticed later that I had a bloody stain on the competition suit, says Parantainen to Finnish media, according to SVT.
Now refuses to talk
However, Iivo Niskanen himself has fought back against the accusations, in both the media and social media. He should also have contacted Parantainen, who, however, did not respond.
– It is unfortunate that he did not want to talk to me or respond when I contacted him. In public, his words about what happened also seem to have changed a couple of times, says Niskanen.
Immediately after the race, they were both seen arguing wildly in the finish line, but Parantainen is not ready to discuss the whole thing further.
– Iivo called me but I didn’t want to answer. Our opinions differ quite a bit. There are also eyewitnesses, but Iivo does not want to admit that. A fellow competitor saw a kick, he says.
