The new TV series about Börje Salming has premiered.
But there is one detail that arouses strong reactions.
The actress Hedda Stiernstedt now reveals the truth.
Today, it has been exactly one year since the Swedish people said goodbye to the hockey icon Börje Salming. Since then, one of our greatest sporting heroes of all time has been greatly missed.
The TV series “Beginning”
Before Salming passed away, aged 71, filming began on the television series about his life and hockey career. Now the TV channel Viaplay has had the long-awaited premiere of “Börje – the Journey of a legend” and the series has been praised by many.

We get to follow how a young Börje, played by the actor Walter Skarsgård, grows up in Kiruna and after a motley period moves on to Gävle and then takes the big step to Canada. Along the way, Salming meets love Margitta Wendin and that’s the actor Hedda Stiernstedt who plays Börje’s first wife in life.
Salming’s ex-wife
Stiernstedt met Margitta, who is also called “Smulan”, several times before and during the television recordings in order to get the best possible picture of her.
– She is a person of great dignity. She gave me little points of reference which I thought were very nice to have with me. Partly small details that we kept, like the nickname Smulan. She and Börje were so loving and playful but also supportive of each other. From what I heard from them both, they really had a nice relationship. They tried to hold on to it even in the difficult moments, says Hedda to the site Filmtopp.

The TV series about Börje has been well received by Swedish viewers and many like the portrayal of the hockey legend’s life, even if it can get very violent in some scenes. Another thing that also caused reactions is the dialects of the actors, which should sound like they are from Kiruna and Gävle.

But now a big mistake is revealed in the TV series regarding Börje’s ex-wife and her dialect, which is not at all appreciated by Margitta Wendin herself. Hedda Stiernstedt reveals the truth behind the TV camera about her character Smulan.
– I am still stressed that the residents of Gävle are going to cut me off. I worked closely with our dialect coach, but then half the script goes out the window and then you have to improvise. You don’t have a chance to know exactly how to do it, but you have to find these little keys like there are thick “L’s” and stuff like that, she tells the film site and continues:
– It was also a choice I made together with Amir (Chamdin, director) to keep Margitta’s dialect. Margitta herself was not overjoyed when she heard that. She means that she never sounded like that and that she stopped talking nonsense early on, haha…
