the giant Google accused of racial discrimination against African Americans

Google is accused of racial discrimination in the United States by a former employee who filed a complaint on Friday March 18 against the tech giant for having underpaid and abusively dismissed her. Its lawyers accuse the group of large-scale discrimination against African Americans.

Hired in 2014 to develop recruitment programs for black American students, April Curley claims to have been used as a marketing tool in a position below her skills, with all salary increases and promotions denied to her.

She also says she is the victim of stereotypes related to black women and being described by her white superiors as ” intimidating », « hostile “, and ” angry “. Dismissed in 2020, according to her unfairly for having denounced this discrimination in a report, April Curley therefore decided to attack this digital juggernaut.

A request to investigate the treatment of black women at Google

The lawyers, who took up the complaint, denounce the discriminatory practices of the group on a large scale, with supporting figures. Only 4.4% of employees in google are black, compared to 9% for other tech companies, and only 3% hold positions of responsibility.

These lawyers have filed a class action to defend the rights of other employees who have also been victims of discrimination and must be compensated. They also asked a California civil rights agency to investigate the group’s treatment of black women. A similar investigation has also been launched by the California Assembly.
