Finland offered a spectacular fiasco on Thursday evening.
And now being sawed hard in the home country after the shock loss in the hockey World Cup.
“One of the worst losses in history,” writes the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.
Tre Kronor is gaining steam in the hockey World Cup and has now won four straight games. It looks all the more difficult for arch-rival Finland after Thursday’s shock loss against lightweight Austria.
Finland’s fiasco
Finland has never lost to Austria in the hockey World Cup, never ever. But with only two-tenths of the match remaining, the cold shower that sends chills through the Finnish forests came.

After the video review, it was found that Benjamin Baumgartner scored 3-2 and Austria had to celebrate the nation’s greatest triumph in a hockey context.
– One of the best moments in Austrian hockey. I can’t wait to celebrate in the dressing room, says Baumgartner to the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti after the match.
“A humiliation”
A shock loss and a historic fiasco for Finland, who still had a 2-0 lead to lean on.
– Not much to say after such a loss. This is how it can go. We have tried to achieve efficiency by making chain changes. Now we have to catch our breath for a while, then we have to think about how to proceed, says the national team captain Jukka Jalonen to Finnish Viaplay.
– When you lose at the last second, it gets quiet in the arena. You get what you deserve. We weren’t efficient enough today.

At home in Finland, the media are not kind and rage against this sensational stomach-churning in the hockey World Cup.
“A big shock,” writes the newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.
“It was a historic humiliation. The lions had never before lost to Lilliput from the Alps in a World Cup game in ice hockey. A terrible problem has been revealed about Finland’s team, which also shone red in the disastrous match against Austria”.

Even the newspaper Iltalehti uses big words to describe the humiliation.
“This is one of the worst losses in the Lions’ World Cup history,” writes Iltalehti.
