Schäuble died at the age of 81.
German politician Wolfgang Schäuble has died at the age of 81. Schäuble served as a member of the German Bundestag for more than half a century.
Schäuble devoted a large part of his career to the reunification of Germany and later served, among other things, as his country’s finance minister.
Schäuble joined the Christian Democrats of Germany in 1965 and became an MP in 1972. He was one of Germany’s longest-serving politicians.
He nearly died in 1990 when a mentally ill gunman shot him. He spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair as a result of the stroke.
